DESCRIPTION:Trail Academy and Crew Leader Certification\nThe SBMTV Trail Academy is a program to build trail stewardship skills and grow the size and skill level of our local trail maintenance community.  This program has been funded by a grant from REI and has a $250 per person value. \n  \nLocation:  \nElings Park for on trail instruction\, Parking lot off of Cliff Drive.\n\n \nDate and Time: \nSaturday January 12th 8:30am-4:30pm and\nSunday January 13th 8:30am-4:30pm\n \n*There will be a BBQ at a nearby house on Saturday after class provided to all students who are able to make it! \n  \nInstructor: \nDrew Perkins – Trails Program Director of Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz.\nDrew is a world-renowned trail design expert and builder\, with a decade of experience from Alaska to Austria. \n  \nDetails: \nThis is a two day intensive trail leader training school modeled after Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz’s Trail Academy (http://mbosc.org/trailacademy/) \n  \nSome of the Trail Maintenance and Construction techniques we will cover: \n\nTrail Evaluation\nHow to maintain and build sustainable trails \nBasics of Trail Construction\nTrail Assessment and Work Prescription\nVolunteer Crew Management\nCoordinating with land managers \nSafety and First Aid  \nSpecific techniques including:\n\n\n\nErosion control features: Rolling Grade Dips and Nicks\nGrade Reversals\nOutslope\, backslope\, and tread rules\nRebenching\nRepairing damaged switchbacks and turns \nBrush trimming and clearing\nCrib wall construction\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis course is for both beginners to advanced trail workers\, even previous Trail School grads.
