 2006-01-21 Upper Romero Canyon Maintenance

On Saturday January 21st 2006, eight volunteers consisting of four hikers and four mountain bikers continued last year's trail maintenance work on the upper Romero Canyon trail. Over the years, sections of this trail (like many of our trails) have filled in with slide/sluff debris and vegetation. This causes trail users to be pushed to the outside six inches of the trail making it easy to slide off of the trail or break down the trail's edge. The volunteers re-established the orginal eighteen inch wide trail by cleaning the slides, debris, and brush off of the trailbed. The repaired sections of trail are now safer and sustainable... Finished original trailbed. Trailbed is now 18" (more in some cases) wide, with 3 degree outslope and a smooth backslope to allow water to sheet off smoothly. Low vegetation will soon grow in to stabilize slope and naturalize the work.
