Join us as we continue our volunteer trail work effort on the Upper
Sisquoc river trail. We have 2 weekends selected for May. The work area
is from Skunk Camp downstream to the South Fork of the Sisquoc area.
It is our plan to backpack in on Friday, work Saturday and backpack out
Sunday. The pack goats will pack in a complete BBQ meal for us for
Saturday night, complete with beer on ice.
We have made excellent progress on the brushing of this trail in the 2
years since taking it on. I believe we have about 1 ‡ miles of brushing
left to reach South Fork Station. The trip a couple of weeks ago was
very successful we had 6 volunteers total and brushed out at least
another 1/2 mile of trail, maybe more. The Upper Sisquoc is really
beautiful this time of Year.
WHEN: May 6,7,8 and May 20,21,22
WHERE TO MEET: We will meet at the Ranger station in Santa Maria at
08:00 AM on Friday Morning and carpool to the trail head from there.
WHAT TO BRING: This is a backpack type trip, normal backpack type gear
and sleeping gear is needed and whatever other personal items You would
like. As mentioned above a complete meal will be provided for Saturday
nights meal, You must bring food for the other meals. We have tools
already at the work areas. Bring a good shade hat, pants and long
sleeve shirt and sturdy shoes for the trail work, gloves will be
provided. Also bring sunscreen and maybe insect repellant. Ticks and
poison oak will be an issue so plan accordingly. Those susceptible to
poison oak can avoid it and work other sections without the nasty
stuff.
OTHER INFO: We will hike in 7.3 miles to Mansfield Camp or 8.5 miles
to Skunk camp via the scenic Juddell Trail and Sisquoc River trails and
set up camp. On Saturday we will walk downstream approx one hour to the
work area. Due to camp size and wilderness impact considerations we are
limited to approx 12 volunteers.

Hi all,
Just to alert you. Our monthly Trails Alliance project is coming up
soon, Saturday May 7th to be specific. We'll meet at Skofield Park at
9AM and work in the middle part of the canyon past the first creek
crossing. Almost all of the work will consist of brushing but depending
on what clearance we have from the SB District archaeologist we will be
doing some tread work if possible too.
Hoping you can be there. Please wear long pants and shirts (there is
poison oak), trail shoes and bring gloves, eye protection and a helmet
(bike helmets work perfectly) if you have them though we will have
extra gloves and helmets available too.
Also plan on bringing a lunch, water or other refreshments and lots of
enthusiasm. We'll have water and Gatorade for you as well. If you have
questions (or need directions to Skofield Park) please email me for
more information at ray@sbtrails.org.
SBMTV continues work on the new trails at Elings Park. We will be brushing and doing dirt work. Do a little maintenance and ride these great new trails afterwords! Bring long pants, helmet, sunscreen, water, and lunch. Tools supplied.
